Tennis season recap from Coach Dufresne as they go into the State Tournament:
The season is coming to an end; I am so darn proud of this team.
Of course I am proud of the success they had at divisionals: 1st place girls team, 1st place boys team, 1st place boys singles, 1st and 2nd place girls singles, 1st place boys doubles, 2nd and 3rd place girls doubles. That is simply remarkable and a testament to the players, their parents/guardians, and our coaching staff.
But I am just as proud of the players who battled their way within a game of state, made deep runs into the tournament, or gritted out a single win and a point for the team.
I am proud of the JV players who battled all year to make the divisional team but fell short.
I am proud of the players who battle injury or illness and simply didn’t get the season they had dreamed of.
I am proud of the players who played on JV all year and waited patiently for a chance to simply play a match.
I am proud of the players who didn’t believe they were athletic, but came out anyway, and discovered risk taking is an essential part of life.
I am proud of the players who just wanted to come out and have some fun in the face of the intense scrutiny our society puts on athletics.
I am so proud of all 48 players on this team.
State is just around the corner, and I don’t know what’s going to happen. Sports would be a lot less fun if I did.
I do know our players will give it all they have, they will support each other throughout, and they will bring me great joy in simply being the wonderful human beings they are.
I also know I am going to miss this team, so much- especially the seniors, as our wonderful journey comes to an end.
