On Tuesday, guest speaker Amber Kornak taught CWW students about bear conflicts and how to use bear spray. After school, students then traveled to Helena to visit the Montana Wild exhibits and learn about Montana birds, reptiles and amphibians.

Update from Coach Dufresne on last week's varsity tennis matches against Corvallis: Thanks to mother nature, it was a wild day of tennis against Corvallis. We began warming up outdoors until just before the matches were set to begin when mother nature decided to rain on our parade for the third straight match this year. Thanks to the generosity of the Canyons Athletic Club, we moved the matches indoors and began play at 2:00. We continued to play until after 9:00, when the last match finally came off the courts. With only two courts, and a small viewing area with 60+ people watching, the players got to experience a divisional or state-like atmosphere. Adding to the pressure, scores began with a score of 2-2, and we played no-ads in an effort to speed up the matches. It was a great experience for the team, and they rose to the occasion. The girls team won a hard fought 4-3 victory, while the boys cruised to a 7-0 sweep. Both JV doubles teams (boys and girls) that played also got victories. Thank you Corvallis for sticking around until every one of our players got a match in. Thank you to the players who stuck around to root on that final match. And again, a huge thank you to Jimmy Pinjuv and the Canyons Athletic Club for making the day possible. We’ve had three matches this year, all of them shortened or canceled because of rain. Yet the team’s positive spirit remains undeterred. We’re hoping for better luck today as we take on Loyola in Missoula. The team is itching to play.

Update from Coach Dufresne about last week's JV matches in Darby: The first JV match of the year is always one of my favorites; you have a number of players walking on the court for their first match. It’s a combination of nerves, excitement, and the unknown. It’s always a great day. What made this first JV match even better was that a number of varsity players spent the last day of their spring break in Darby supporting the team. Sports are often measured in wins and losses, and by that metric we had a good day, winning over 70% of our matches. I like to measure the first JV match (well, any match really) in the courage to take risks, the determination to keep battling, the joy to be had, and the camaraderie to be shared. By those metrics, the day was 100% a success. I hope the players had as good a day as I did. I hope they fall in love with this sport. I hope they learn life lessons through playing this silly game. And I hope it becomes a lifelong joy for them. Can’t wait to see them on the courts again on May 15th in Polson.

Recap of last weekend's track & field meet from Coach Jessop: The Bronc Track & Field team took to the first meet of the season on Saturday, March 23. The weather cooperated (for the most part), and your Bronc athletes set the tone for the coming weeks. It was good to attend the first competition, the Blue Devil Invitational, on Saturday the 23rd. It was an excellent opportunity for us to set initial marks for a young season. The Broncs had some athletes already punch their ticket to state in Laurel. Andrew Burrows easily made the list when he hit 55’11” in the shot put. Tyson Bauder marked a 183’10” throw in javelin. Mya Winkler qualified in the discus (126’1”) and javelin (117’3”). Freshmen phenoms Anna Lewis (5:23 in the 1600m) and Aleigha Child (11:53 in the 3200m) already have a spot at state. Below is also a quick peak at the Bronc girls shot put crew results…… impressive!

HHS Tennis recap from Coach Dufresne: After a frustrating defeat to mother nature (match cancellation) on Friday, the Hamilton tennis team bounced back with both the girls and the boys teams defeating Dillon. The boys won 7-0, and the girls won 5-2. The boys got singles wins from Andy Purcell, Carden Nelson, Jackson Kirkbride, and James Tossberg (default). Doubles teams Finn Dufresne/Jason Chaplain, Daniel Simmerman/Keaton Martin, and Kaden Carroll/Micah Van Sickle completed the sweep. The girls got singles wins from Tallulah Pinjuv, Sam Geroy, and Crystal Van Sickle. Doubles teams Charlie Holmes/Codie Clarke and Anna Twardoski/Jasmine Jimenez both won as well. Kristen Jessop was up 6-4 before having the match called because she was battling sickness. Emma Hollingsworth/Gwen Wolfe lost a tough match to Dillon's #1 doubles team, but showed resilience. Beyond the wins and losses, it was simply a great first day of tennis until mother nature put an end to the match against Ronan as soon as it started. The atmosphere was full of joy, the griddle was sizzling with pancakes and bacon, and the air was filled with laughter and camaraderie. I can't express enough how much I appreciate the character of this team, and these players. It's going to be a fantastic season. Can't wait for the next practice and the next match.

HSD3 has some amazing students! The HHS Leadership Class was asked to come up with a final project that would recognize a need in their school/community and cultivate a positive change in that area of interest, while simultaneously developing skills that promote leadership. We've created a webpage that highlights some of the great projects they came up with! We are proud of the positive impact our students our having in our community and schools! You can view their presentations here: https://www.hsd3.org/o/hhs/page/hhs-leadership-class
